“They breathe a new life into Brazil’s popular lilting choro style... adding a distinctive, contemporary edge”
- Sarah Ward (Jazz FM)
Based in London, Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of choro, a rich and uplifting style of instrumental music from Rio de Janeiro. Alvorada explore influences from all over Brazil, playing choros with the irresistible swing of samba and maxixe from the South to baião from the Northeast, all with an immediacy and vibrancy that delights audiences everywhere.
Alvorada’s debut album First Light contains choro classics and original works, revisiting the genre with influences from the UK.
Recently Alvorada have played at venues including the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, SOAS Brunei Gallery and Maison du Brésil (Paris). They have recorded for La Linea Festival, and their second album has been recorded and is due to be released in 2024.
Alvorada unites top musicians from London and Brazil, whose diverse backgrounds - including jazz, classical and Brazilian music - lend the group a unique and innovative sound. Alvorada won the Latin UK (LUKAS) award for “Best Act”, and “Best Band’ in the Focus Brasil awards.
The band performs extensively in London and across the UK, and are available for private events and functions.
